Review: Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

Goodreads Summary:
A contemporary novel about a girl whose high school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream leads her to new friends—and maybe even new love.

The day of the last party of the summer, Claudia overhears a conversation she wasn't supposed to. Now on the wrong side of one of the meanest girls in school, Claudia doesn't know what to expect when the two are paired up to write a paper—let alone when they're both forced to try out for the school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

But mandatory participation has its upsides—namely, an unexpected friendship, a boy band obsession, and a guy with the best dimpled smile Claudia's ever seen. As Claudia's world starts to expand, she finds that maybe there are some things worth sticking her neck out for.

Review

What can I say about Emma Mills? She really has a knack for writing teens stories that'll make you nod and swoon. I loved her previous books so I wasn't surprised to find myself absolutely loving Foolish Hearts too.

Claudia wants to be invisible. She just wants to finish high school without being seen. Only, when she accidentally makes it onto mean girl Iris's sh*t list the rest of her school years looks to be anything but calm. What follows is a heartwarming tale of new friends and sweet love.

It was really easy to relate to Claudia as she came face to face with her fears. While she initially did not deal well with the changes with her friends she does realize her mistakes and patches things up quickly. My favourite part, besides the romance, was seeing Claudia and Iris work out their differences. They went from deliberately ducking out of each other's way to fangirling together to giving sincere advices to each other. Time and trust built their friendship and in the end it just felt right.

I swooned hard over Claudia and Gideon. Their budding romance was so precious. I loved how careful they were with each other. They encountered some roadblocks but I'm super thrilled Claudia gathered enough confidence and believed in Gideon enough to open her heart again. Every conversation and interaction between the two of them had my pounding heart filled with warm fuzzy feels. They were adorable to read about.

As a contemporary lover I highly recommend Emma Mills books if you haven't read any yet. You won't regret it. Whether it's this newest Foolish Hearts or her debut First & Then or her sophomore This Adventure Ends they're all simply amazing.

  3. Loved this one too! For me, Iris was the star of the book. She could have been such an unlikeable character, but I was completely on her side. But Claudia and Gideon were pretty cute too...
